The deep blue softens as it mingles with the turquoise and sea-green, the soft blending is a show of Lindberg’s artistic abilities and attention to detail. The musky golden rim at the top of the bowl creates a border and reference point for how the firing affects both the external and internal glazing. Externally speaking, the firing is a success, with only a couple of spots of the bone white stoneware making an appearance. In 2018, Lane made his final works for a 60 year retrospective, highlighting his command and mastery as an artist. The organic frills flow almost like the fins of an aquatic creature. The more natural colour pallet and highlights of texture is a signifier of Lane’s earlier work, before transitioning to a vibrant airbrushed glaze. The stone grit line travelling down the centre of the piece is a raw contrasting statement to the soft and elegant surroundings.

Specifications:

Signed.

Height: 17cm / Width: 20cm / Depth: 14.5cm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0800/7883/1907/files/N18.StudiovasebyPeterLane_England.1970_s.-11.jpg?v=1690752567
three-neck-vase-england-1960-s
Triple-necked vase, England. 1960s.

Specifications:

Height: 24cm / Diameter: 17cm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0800/7883/1907/files/unique-interesting-aorta-three-necked-drip-glazed-brown-yellow-ochre-studio-pottery-heavy-crafted-vase-england-mid-century-20th-century-design-for-sale-sad-gallery-london-7.jpg?v=1773657742
seed-pod-vase-england-1970-s
Seed pod vase, England. 1970s.

Specifications:

Height: 11cm / Width: 10cm / Depth: 9cm

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0800/7883/1907/files/N20.Studioseedpodvase_anonymous_England.1970_s.-07.jpg?v=1690753112
bonsai-planter-england-1980-s
Bonsai planter, England. 1980s.

A modest moulded bonsai planter with hand thrown tray, executed by an English pottery studio in the 1980's.

Crafted from terracotta and partially glazed throughout, the organic asymmetrical forms really make this example stand out from typical bonsai planters, especially in terms of its heavily textured and mottled surface. Steel has been bent into organic yet sturdy tripod frames that flow into the natural features of the lamps, rather than forcing the materials into a ‘box’. Similar to traditional parchment, untanned goat hide has been used for the lantern panels for a bone-white canvas for the artisans to paint on. The hide has been stitched to the steel frames with attention to the thread mimicking the curvature of the metalwork.
