If I had owned this piece as a child, I imagine it would have been my most treasured possession! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is an exceptionally well-detailed, perfectly undamaged, gorgeously patinated silver miniature chair (at the very least 833 purity) Specifically, a turners chair modelled after period examples that were typically Dutch or English. Unusually, this model features a 'woven' seat instead of the usual boarded seat, which were especially tricky to join thanks to the triangular shape. On the backrest of this tiny version you will find the Dutch sword hallmark which dates this as early as 1906. The VKB makers mark, on the other hand, dates this piece to 1961 at the earliest. Mind you, literature on this very specific topic is limited, so I personally take both sources of information with a pinch of salt. An incredibly well-made miniature regardless.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\"Family Scene\", a 1670 Dutch painting by Jan Steen, illustrates the possible function of such an unusual chair design, where we see a rowdy group of people gathered in a crowded kitchen. In the foreground, a woman sits slumped in a three-legged turners chair of her own, flagon of wine in hand, yet her chair remains upright and sturdy on the uneven floor. Three-legged chairs are well-known to be difficult to be tip over!
