Iron and Glass Candelabra, Erik Höglund, Boda, Sweden. 1960s.
Iron and Glass Candelabra, Erik Höglund, Boda, Sweden. 1960s.
A freestanding two-armed candelabra designed by Erik Höglund for Boda Nova Glassworks. The piece is a part of a series that was versatile and applied to freestanding pieces such as this or as chandeliers of amazing proportions, some holding up to fifteen candles.
Höglund explores texture in this series, creating holders with an ice glass styled surface. This texture is very reminiscent of Iitalla ‘tree bark’ glasses, showing the crossover between the neighbours and how the designers were inspired by organic references.
The design has subtle anthropomorphic elements, observable as a stick man with his arms stretched out. The cross is an excellent touch of detail to add and is entirely consistent with the other designs in the series.
This piece is in excellent vintage condition with little to no wear visual on both the iron frame and glass features.
