Wall-Standing Umbrella/Stick Stand, Artis, England. Late 19th/Early 20th century.
Wall-Standing Umbrella/Stick Stand, Artis, England. Late 19th/Early 20th century.
A personal favourite of mine, this stick stand design was first produced around 1890 by Birmingham factory Artis. A very smart combination of cast iron with structural brass rods and natural bamboo stems.
Featuring very old if not original white painted finish, and a format which I have never come across in this design - wall standing. I believe this is one of the more scarce versions alongside the corner shaped design (free-standing pieces were well-produced)
Specifications:
Makers mark to the underside. Some chippy paint in places but no major losses, structurally sound with the very often seen yet subtle twist between top and bottom halves. Light marks to the drip tray left from the points of umbrellas over the decades.
Height: 50cm / Depth: 11cm / Width: 22.5cm
