Copper Tea Caddy, England. Early 20th century.
Copper Tea Caddy, England. Early 20th century.
An unusual and exceptionally smart copper tea caddy; a stand-out piece with regards to its minimal decoration and form, paired with precise fabrication.
Every surface has been graced with a rich, warm patina that only decades of use can produce. Upon closer inspection, we can see the the surface has been so well handled and worn that only the ghost of original etchings can be found. On one side sits what appears to be a phoenix with spreading wings. The underside reveals a mysterious makers mark resembling the likeness of a male figure hunched over a writing table with quill in hand.
The caddy is in fantastic condition for its age, the only visible wear of note being a light crumpling of one corner and the neck neck ever so slightly leaning. A still perfectly usable yet versatile decorative object.
