Early 'Sight Light' Table Lamp, M.G. Wheeler Co. USA. 1950s.
A truly authentic and early example of the post-bauhaus industrial 'Sight Light' table lamp, produced by M.G Wheeler Co. of USA. This piece dates from the 1950s, with a shade style not unlike the iconic PH lamps by Poul Henningsen of Denmark - a widely exported design by that time. A bruised and knocked burgundy painted form shows off decades of honest use, contrastingly topped with three petit brass finials to secure the dish in place. A weighty square steel base anchors the arching brass stem from the ball on which it rotates 360 degrees, a valuable feature for table top drafting work. Although not a particularly limited production at the time, it is rare to see one completely unrestored with such characterful patina.
