This lidded stoneware jar is, at first glance, not immediately striking until properly observed. Upon removing the lid you will notice precise shrinkage calculation, the marriage of this part being an unbelievably natural extension of the body. Delicate and similarly precise brushwork to the surface contrasts a desaturated light blue base glaze, the entire surface visually textured by dense crackling.

"Above all else Cardew wanted to be - and evidently showed himself to be on many occasions - a master of form" - anonymous, quoted from a clipping found in this very jar. Ultimately, I find that this piece is not of his creation, but that does not take away from the beauty of the form and brushwork which does truly emulate his style.
