Since the times of the Ancient Greeks firedogs have been an invaluable feature to a fireplace, primarily for their functionality but also as hard-wearing decor.
The elegant gooseneck lifts an angled disc, mimicking a dog eagerly waiting for its owner’s return. Leading down the neck is an ‘X’ struck in a box above the pinned joint to the log/andiron rest. The neck is split to make the legs, the curvature with an instrument-like design - somewhat like the form of a cello 'f-hole'.
These heavy iron pieces are in excellent vintage condition with very little if any signs of wear.
