Bold in both form and colour, this candlestick is unmistakably recognisable as a design by Stig Lindberg. In the early 1940's, he and Wilhelm Kåge produced the very first 'Faience' series objects with Gustavsberg, of which Kåge was the artistic director.

Thrown or moulded from earthenware, this collection is known for its white glazes contrasted by brightly coloured geometric or floral decorations. The collection was so successful that Gustavsberg were still releasing new designs well into the 1960's when this particular candle holder design was made.

Hand-decorated in studio, this piece features striking sky blue, indigo and poppy red stripes wrapping around its circumference. The bold studio hand mark and model number 31 are signed on the base interior.

A superb example, the only condition report of note being one small chip to the glazing to the underside of the drip tray/dish.
