'Tango' Stoneware Mug in Cream, Jaroslav Hrustalenko, England. 2000s.
'Tango' Stoneware Mug in Cream, Jaroslav Hrustalenko, England. 2000s.
A simply irresistible 'dancing' stoneware mug with a gentle cream and dense crystalline glaze designed and made by Ukrainian-born potter Jaroslav Hrustalenko.
An artist with second-to-none technical skill and knowledge, Jaroslav Hrustalenko has spent over two decades producing a huge range of work inspired by musical harmonies, anthropology, and even tango dancing - from which this series of mugs gets its name. Striking in form and visual balance, these pieces appear hand-built but are in fact wheel-thrown with each completely unique mug handle pulled and altered to not only 'strike a pose' but sit so comfortably in the hand that I audibly gasped out loud when first using them. Absolutely perfect in execution, weight, colour and expression.
