Most likely executed in the later half of the 20th century by a British studio potter, this slab built lidded jar with handles is nothing short of exceptional in form, fabrication, colour and composition. A truly functional work of art, and one that is difficult to accept as anonymous!

Looking at the mirrored shapes of the feet to the top of the lid, the first thing that comes to mind are Victorian roof ridge tiles, still a common sight in the UK. The terracotta undertone of the base glaze further resembles this, whilst the majority of the sculptural body is coloured a dark dusty blue. A dense texture not unlike leather grain is present throughout, and two dramatic dripping explosions of volcanic glaze erupt on each face.

In excellent condition, with only one historical hidden chip to the inside of one foot.
