A brilliant stoneware vase hand thrown and built by John Kershaw, England, likely around the turn of the 21st century. Examples of his current work are not made in quite so flamboyant style.
Featuring paper-thin blistering and bursting powdered ball-clay walls that appear to be containing an explosion deep within, the form itself taking clear inspiration from ancient pottery, the whimsical scrolled handles having outrageous flare, both impressed with decorations. His signature splash of applied colourful glaze brings the large vase to life, adding another layer of complexity to an already highly textured, tactile piece. Overall in perfect condition.
John Kershaw initially produced far more functional 'domestic' pottery after setting up his own pottery in 1972. Now, he works with far more freedom and quite experimental, looking to ancient archetypal pots for inspiration to draw from.
