Vase, John Beusmans, Carn Pottery, England. 1980's.
Instantly recognisable to English pottery collectors, this lovely little slip-cast vase by John Beusmans showcases his signature colours achieved by applying copper oxide and copper mixed with cobalt to the surface.
Since the early 1970's he has been producing fascinating vases and sculptures of all shapes and sizes from his Carn Pottery studio near St. Ives. Although not typical of our usual pottery collecting, we just loved this example for its sweet scale, understated form and gentle moulded motifs. The simple rubber stamped mark to the underside is barely visible - a good sign of its age - but there would be no doubt that this is the fine work of Jon Beusmans even without it. A perfect display piece for avid collectors and keen decorators alike.
